Accuracy is the foundation of everything we publish at Hawthorne Driving Traffic School. This page explains how our editorial team checks the facts in every article.
Our Fact-Checking Process
Every article goes through these steps before it is published:
- Research from official sources: Our team starts with primary sources such as state legislature websites, official bill texts, DMV and DOT announcements, court records, and police statements.
- Verification of key details: Bill numbers, effective dates, fines, penalties, and the states affected are checked directly against the official source.
- Second review: A second member of our editorial team reviews the article for accuracy, clarity, and fairness before it goes live.
- Source links: We link to the official sources we used, so readers can check the information themselves.
Sources We Trust
- State legislature websites and official bill texts
- State Departments of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
- State and federal Departments of Transportation (DOT)
- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
- Official court and law enforcement announcements
- Established news organizations, credited and linked when used
What We Avoid
- We do not publish claims we cannot confirm from a reliable source.
- We do not rely on social media posts, rumors, or unverified reports as the only source.
- If a detail is reported but not yet confirmed, we clearly say so.
Laws That Are Not Final
Many traffic bills are proposed but never become law. When we report on a bill, we clearly state its status, such as introduced, passed by the legislature, signed into law, or in effect, so readers know whether it applies to them.
Keeping Articles Current
Traffic laws change over time. We review and update our articles when new information becomes available and show the “Updated” date at the top of the article.
